"The end of law is not to abolish or restrain, but to preserve and enlarge freedom. For in all the states of created beings capable of law, where there is no law, there is no freedom." ~John Locke Rule #1: All new recruits must be spoken to by Seth or a designated Recruitment Officerbefore they join.
The people in the Free Company are what make and define the Free Company. We only want the best quality people in Gate of Babylon because of this. Having people with similar ideology also avoids a lot of conflict. Finally, just as importantly, when people come into the Free company is is critical that they are told what the Free Company is about so that they can feel more comfortable when joining and are better able to meet and blend with other Free Company members with similar interests.
Rule #2: Personal conflicts must be dealt with privately with the minimum number of people.
We are a mature group of people who are here to enjoy ourselves and to improve ourselves. If there is a problem or a fight between people in the Free Company, there is absolutely no reason that the rest of the Gate of Babylon should have to get involved with it. In addition, there is no reason for a member to go and gather friends to help 'fight' someone who has upset them. Again, we are adults. This is not high school. If a fight gets to the point where it begins to effect the Free Company as a whole, the consequences will be very heavy, and will not uncommonly involve at least a temporary removal from the Free Company by one or both sides.
Rule #3: Common Sense Rule! (CSR) If a person is creating a very poor atmosphere in the Free Company, they can have consequences dealt to them in response.
This is a very straightforward rule that encompasses various smaller rules that really shouldn't have to be listed. For example:
Being excessively racist or insensitive and trying to get a negative reaction out of other players.
Being excessively sensitive and attacking people in the name of social justice.
Acting in a way to subvert Free Company goals and structure, in an attempt to hurt the stability of the Free Company.
Refusing to listen to the appeal of an officer or Seth.
Rule 4: People will be kicked after a period of inactivity.
Initiates - 7 Days
Full Members - 14 Days
Seasoned Members - 21 days.
Officers will lose their Officer status after a week of inactivity.
All of these can be avoided with due notice given to Seth or an officer.
As the Free Company leader, I retain the right to modify or change these rules as needed or as suggested. In addition, it should be mentioned that this is not a democratic Free Company. While I do often seek advice and look to understand both sides of an argument, I also can choose to ignore such things and trust my own judgement. If there is a situation that is threatening the Gate of Babylon, I will not waste time bandying with politics. The action taken will be what I call Minimal Decisive Action. I am not out to deal the heaviest consequence, but I will not risk an issue continuing by being too light either. These rules are not excessive or heavy, so in contrast, the consequences tend to be.
I wish you all the best, and hope that these rules can give you a sense of comfort and reliability in Gate of Babylon! If there are any questions, feel free to ask in game. I will modify the post as needed.
